Morning Offering
The traditional Catholic morning prayer — giving the day to God before it starts.
O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary,
I offer you my prayers, works,
joys, and sufferings of this day,
in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass
throughout the world.
I offer them for all the intentions of your Sacred Heart:
the salvation of souls, reparation for sin,
and the reunion of all Christians.
I offer them for the intentions of our bishops
and of all members of the Apostleship of Prayer,
and in particular for those recommended
by our Holy Father this month.
Amen.
About this prayer
The Morning Offering became widespread in the late 1800s through the Apostleship of Prayer, but its instinct is much older: hand the day over to God before the day starts asking things of you. Even small actions, offered in advance, become prayer.
When to pray it
First thing, before you check your phone. Before you start your work. Before the demands of the day get a hold of you.
